Scrapbooking is truly a lifestyle. For me it started with my Dad who has faithfully cut the obituaries out of the newspaper for every person he's ever known. Soon after hearing of someon'e death, my Dad would turn to his scrapbooks to remember the last photo taken of them. After the funeral or at the family's house, he'd share more scrapbooks and memories. I found myself doing the very same thing when my Grandmother died two weeks ago...I even made a scrapbook about her on the way to the funeral, but I still felt unsettled. So Sunday afternoon, while the nursing home where she lived honored her in a memorial service, my kids and I had our own little memorial. Each child made a scrapbook page about her and wrote what they knew and loved about her. So you see scrapbooking really is my lifestyle.
So Sorry to hear of your loss. I hope that the scrapbook that you and your children made will bring you comfort. I am keeping you in my prayers.

I've been here before from crop chic's blog, and made my way back throught the yahoo message board. Hello!
In my family, we always saved newspapers clippings as well. My grandparents retired in a small military town in NC and all of their family events made the region section of the newspapers. They were one of the only black families in the region at that time, (but this is not why they were news) it was just something small towns did. I even remember my birth being announced in a clipping my grandmother saved and sent to my mother. She added it to my baby book.(another form of scrapbooking if you will.
To make a long story short, documenting our lives with photos, and journaling has always been an important part of our heritage, it may not have been as mainstream, but it has been done.
To make a long story short, I made a scrapbook for my firend in 1994 for her HS graduation. Only using a stickers, photos and a regular 300 page photo album (many pages left for college years) My supplies were very primitive by todays selections, but nonetheless, scrapbooking was in my heart then and has evolved to be in my heart in an even more special way now! Peace!
