Ethnic Scrapbooking

Life has been crazy!

Let me share with you, just a glimpse of my life these past two weeks.

Here's our family calendar...red items were must do items!  So much was going on with the kids my DH had to take a week vacation to help shuttle kids to & fro.  That's all over, very limited activities from here on out.

Last weekend I spent a great Friday night cropping with my girls at the Great American Scrapbook Convention in Chantilly, VA, but I had a serious scrapbook hangover on Saturday...so much so I slept well into the evening.  Here are some snap shots:

My girl BW multi-tasking as usual...I call her the title queen, she always has a unique title on her pages.

Karen...well she doesn't get to scrap with us often, but she's a trooper, she went to NJ with me last month and now she's cropping the night away in VA.

Michelle..new to our group, and this was her first convention and boy did she shop.  SHe's a ton of laughs and I can't wait to scrap with her again.

In case you are wondering we are at the Dulles Expo and the room can hold 600 scrapbookers, I think there were a little over 500 this night .  My two enablers here, Annie & Lisa...not sure which one of them owns the most stuff...I'm leaning toward Annie,  she's got both the cricut & Wishblade...note to self, visit Annie and try both machines.

Ladies from Divine Designs were quite stricking in there green shirts, green cricut totes & AMM totes.

I met so many new scrappers of color...and we all live close to each other...Here are the newsest CMC's I met and my "scrapbook girl"  Marilyn is TLC consultant and also teaching scrapbooking with me at A.C. Moore.

Next year we have to remember to dress alike, decorate or tables and bring a HEAVY sweater...it was freezing in there!

Father's Day Gifts

As usual, we were making Father's Day gifts the night before...but we did shop way before hand.  Kids made frames and embellished them with things Dad loves and two things they desperately want (trip to disney and a dog).  The whole process took an hour and that included painting the frames.

I took the photo of my Dad with his great grandson, Tavien (just turned 6 months).  For those of you who know my Dad, here's a rare photo of him being sweet and tender, because you know how gruff he can be!

Did I tell you how much fun I had teaching in N.J. a few weeks ago?  Thanks to camera packing student, Lori for taking these snapshots and sending them to me.  Check out the NJ album to the left.

In my Ethnic Scrapbooking  class we learned how to incorporate other cultures into our projects by completing a theme based mini-album.  I hope I inspired students to celebrate cultural diversity, the good of life, family and community.  I challenged students to add cultural flair to their scrapbook projects regardless of their race, ethnicity, or nationality.  After completing this mini-album, I hope students will be proud to add photos of their family and friends that reflect seven different life-guiding principles and their meanings. 

Thought Provoking

I've been involved in many thought provoking, intellectual conversations today, but check this one out!  My friend Judy, over at the only on-line store I purchase from, Best Kept Memories, is a blessing in more ways than one.  She and I have had some thought provoking discussions this past week on the many cultures that make up this world and I'm glad to see Melody Ross honor her friendship with Judy on her brand new blog.

The other conversations were of the narrow-minded persuasion, so I won't share those links with you.  Have a blessed day and be a blessing to someone in return.

Expo Spoil

Here's a little bit of my spoil.

  A little Zsiage & Rusty Pickle, ultra fabulous rub-ons from Same-Differences, rubberstamp stitches (couldn't find rub-ons), my second set of QuiKutz letters, ethnic album given to me as a gift from student known as "Ethnichic" over at Diversity Designs and my favorite... Phi Kappa Scrappa t-shirt!

NJ Expo Report

Just back from Memories Expo in NJ.  Taught two classes, stood all day, helped out with the make-n-take table over at Kim Luty's booth.  Only did a total of 20 minutes of shopping on the convention floor...I'll share pics of my purchases later, hope that student Lori send me photos from the class, because I left my camera in the car and it rained almost the whole we were there.  Met a bunch of wonderful, energetic ladies, most from African American yahoo group and from Diversity Designs community.

More later, gotta get rest before these kids get up in a few hours.
