That's been my theme this holiday season. First, I started off educating different groups about Kwanzaa, then I was educated about various Christmas tradtions. This past weekend the girls and I took an educational field trip to New York city and later, I'll share some of what we learned and experienced over several blog entries.
Last week I had fun with a local girl scout troop discussing ways to connect to the seven principles of Kwanzaa. I encouraged them to create their own Kwanzaa displays during this week and learn more about this African-American celebration.

We have been watching Polar Express for the last two days...at least. A few weeks ago we were talking about the movie and Jonathan was explaining to us that Santa wasn't real and how he didn't believe...then a small voice came from the powder room that said, "I Believe!" It was so precious. Tonight after a few of the kids went to bed, I reminded Joseph to leave out a few cookies for Santa...and some soy milk, because Santa is lactose intolerant. After we had everything all set out, he said...we need a note...he ran to the table where we had some leftover Christmas cards and grabbed the one with the reindeers...it was too cute...I'm glad the camera was close.
We usually try to attend a candlelight service at church and then ride around looking at the Christmas lights, but Leah is sick with the flu, so I'll have to keep playing this video for her.

We celebrate four, countem' four Birthdays during the week of Christmas. Joseph starts off our week on the 18th, Tavien on the 19th, Mine on the 25th and JESUS on CHRISTmas Day! That's a lot of cake for one household.
At work this past Wednesday, I attended a women's luncheon where out admission ticket was a family recipe. The recipes were then compiled into a mini-book along with our stories surrounding the submission. My submission was the Potato Candy that I'm looking forward to making on Christmas eve with my mother and children.
I really enjoyed hearing the stories, we laughed at a Filipino dish that required the milk of a "real" coconut, sticky rice and banana leaves, because as the woman was describing it she said it was simple to make...but it sounded so "Martha Stewart" with fresh ingredients that you wouldn't find in your local grocery store. In actuality, it is probably very easy to find those ingredients at a local Asian market here in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
