A dream of mine fullfilled...one of my slave ancestors is given a proper headstone at his burial site.
Over the Fourth of July weekend our family was called to the burial site of our ancestors Stephen and Della Tarpley in DryFork, VA by the beat of African drums...where the names of our oldest family members were bellowed. Della's headstone is the only tangible reminder of her, Stephen previously had two cement markers that leaned against a tree a few yards from his actual resting site. For the past ten years, I have been dreaming of a headstone for Stephen and this year our southern branch made that happened. I'm so thankful that many more generation's of Stephen and Della will have a place to visit and give prayers of thanks for their strength courage and faith. Although the headstone reminder is nice, I'm even more thankful for them raising their children in the Christian faith, now that's a legacy that truly will live on forever.
