"Nicholas- hero of the people- died on December 6. May we continue to follow his example of love and giving."
Today, I shared the legend of Saint Nicholas with my three boys (Joseph (age 8, Kareem age 7 (close family friend) and Tavien age 6 on our way to visit with Marylnd's Governor O'Malley at his home in Annapolis, MD. The boys gave gifts for the Toys for Tots program. While touring the house there was a decorative statue of St. Nicholas on his white horse Alabaster.
Joseph and I had some quality time reading a few essays about St. Nicholas this past weekend. So today he told the first half of the story and related events and characters to the prsent and I told the second half of the story. I think they'll be looking for gold coins in their stockings hung by the fireplace this year. Now we are searching for a St. Nicholas figurine on a white horse to add to our holiday displays.
Take the time out during this holiday season to learn, understand and share the various meanings behind holiday traditions.
One of my "go to" references is Christmas Legends to Remember by Helen Haidle.
